As not just a new year but also a new decade begins, it seems difficult to believe that it is ten whole years since the millennium celebrations of 31 December 1999. In light of global events that have taken place during this time, it is not an exaggeration to say that in many ways the world as we know it has changed profoundly in a period of time that (to me at least) seems to have flown by.
Changes in the asset finance industry were infrequent, subtle and rarely newsworthy during the first half of the decade, with the sector enjoying a period of growth and stability. The global economic slowdown and banking crisis that in this country started (but far from ended) with the Northern Rock fiasco, triggered the start of unprecedented changes to our industry resulting in many company closures and resulting job losses, thrusting the industry into the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The availability of credit (taken for granted for so long) has rarely been such a hotly discussed topic, from the Houses of Parliament to the papers to the man in the street. After a long period of prosperity that has been either helped along or unsustainably fuelled (depending on your school of thought) by the availability of easy credit, the fact that obtaining loans can now be so difficult is having ramifications for every corner of our society.
Whilst we are not miracle workers, at Fenton Finance Limited we try and listen to people's circumstances first before rushing to judgement about whether a loan should be granted or not. We also make sure as a broker we are aligned with companies who do likewise. Many people are refused loans for the right reasons but the ones who may have been refused for the wrong reasons are often the ones who go on to develop lasting relationships with ourselves.
